As far as i can tell my composition needs work, and i have been trying to diversify as well... admittedly i havent uploaded the diversity yet
I like the Web site the critter sketches are great and i love the sketchbook section, the life drawings and especially all the dogs, and penguins too cool.
any suggestions you can give me would be great.
(still love these penguins.)
okay well I would say work on your fundamentals first off... Take a lot of figure drawing and from the right teacher..Teachers who teach structure and gesture, anatomy etc.. Not those who teach portrait,likeness,etc.. This will help give structure to your imaginative work.
Look up Glenn Vilpuu and Karl Gnass ( [link] ) This will also help you w/lighting and staging...you can learn so much from figure drawing and animals too but animal drawing is tougher.. I do teach animal drawing @the LA Zoo but its been awhile.... (I have my drawing manual available on my site if you r interested.... worth it...as old as it is)
Anyway, I see you have a knack for the cute, dont lose that, its easy to make something gly, scary, etc, but doing beautiful,cute,sexy,etc.... is tough. Anyway, I would like to see more straights in your work, not just straights but a nice blend of straights and curves.... a good drawing as both....
Try to learn how to lead the viewer's eye around the page, whether a full layout picture, or a just a character... s-curves are your friends for this..
Also w/character design is is very important to learn about straight against curve.... a straight on one side of the figure would call for a curve on the other.
I do see children's books in your future...
I like the light colorful palette, but try more moody monochromatic pieces....
maybe a cat in the night in all dark blues and purples...even the moon would be a pale blue...
Versatility will help find your way... and help w/employment, being able to do many styles keeps me employed.....
Keep going and hopefully this all helps...

Thanks for the Reply, I really apreciate the constructive suggestions and I plan to make full use of all the suggestions while I am on holiday for the next 2 weeks ( am going to Donegal which has such beautiful scenery and animals there is no lack of inspiration, Have you ever visited Ireland? you should try it! bring your watercolours.) I dont currently earn my living with my artwork but that is the overall aim, so I am never going to stop trying my best. If do anything good while I am away I will send you a sample!
Thanks again
Ann.

This contest serves two purposes: Raising awareness about human trafficking and raising funds for the Not For Sale organization.
